Hand Print Rainbow Bulletin Board

We used a very large piece of bulletin board to make our hand print rainbow.  We drew the rows for the colors in pencil before having the children stamp their hands.  Click on the teddy bear to find out how to make the leprechauns and the gold coins on this bulletin board.

Rainbow Blizzard Art

Even though we never have blizzards in southern California, we do like to learn about weather and the seasons.  I printed the poem by taking it to Kinko's and having them enlarge it.  The cost for enlarging it and the poster board was only a few dollars.  I laminated it and will be able to use it for many years!

The rainbow snowflakes were made on a coffee filter.  The children were able to cut their own snowflake.  Then we dropped food coloring on these snowflakes using eye droppers. I have since found liquid watercolors made by Coloration.  I like the vibrant colors better, and it washes off easier than food coloring!  We mounted the snowflakes on different colors of construction paper squares.

Rainbow Art

Each child made a rainbow using dyed rice. The rainbow was made on a rainbow outline.  They applied glue to the pattern and dropped the rice on top.  You will need more red, orange and yellow rice than the green, blue and violet.

This rice was dyed using food coloring and alcohol.  However, I now use Coloration Liquid Watercolors to dye pastas and rice.  It doesn't require using alcohol.  I put it in a zip lock bag with a few drops of watercolor and shake!

Favorite Colors Graph

This is a fun graph to make in the shape of a rainbow.  Each child puts a rectangle of their favorite color in the rainbow for their vote.

Rainbow Cloud

We make these rainbow clouds using butcher paper.  Cut two identical clouds.  Staple or glue all around the top of the cloud.  Stuff the cloud with newspaper or tissue paper.  Glue bottom of cloud 1/2 inch from the bottom edge.  Place colored strips of crepe paper in order of the rainbow between the front and the back of the cloud pieces.

Under the Rainbow
(tune:  Up on the Housetop)

First comes the rain cloud passing by

Dropping raindrops in my eye!

Then comes the sunshine up so high

Now a rainbow in the sky!

Yea-Yea-Yea-who wouldn't go?
