The Legend
of the Lion and the Lamb

There
is an old legend of the lion and the lamb. If the
weather comes in on March 1st like a lion, then it is said to go out
like a lamb. Or, if it comes in like a lamb, then it
will go out like a lion!
Patterns
and directions are given in PDF files to make this hanging
back-to-back lion and lamb project.
Lion
and Lamb Graph
Make
a graph to predict if March will come in like a lion or a
lamb! A banner and all of the pieces are provided in
PDF files to complete this activity.
Tracking Lion and Lamb Days in March
Two different methods are given to track the lion and
lamb days with your students for the month of March.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday
with
Read Across America!

March 2nd is the official "Read Across America" Day
to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. There are
ideas and activities to help celebrate the day!

Cat
in the Hat

Making a student hat for "Cat in the Hat" is a great
way to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day! Pattern and
directions are given in a PDF file to make these fun
hats.

Make a bow tie with your students to wear with the
hat shown above. Pattern and directions are given in an
easy to copy PDF
file.

Cat in the Hat Rhyming Words

Practice rhyming words. Students cut out the matching rhyming words and also
get to add the cat's face and stripes! This is
a great way to practice reading and matching rhyming
words.

Our Favorite Dr. Seuss Books Writing

For "Read Across America" we read lots of Dr. Seuss
books. Children always have their favorites and
this is a great way to fit writing into the
curriculum. There is a story writing blank
paper with a matching book cover to go with the
stories to add to your classroom library.
I like to laminate the book cover to use for several
years! There is also a parent letter that you
can send home asking children to bring in Dr. Seuss
materials such as books, games, videos, etc.

Children match the number to the number word with
this fun activity for "One Fish, Two Fish.
Great for reading and math!

St. Patrick's Day Vests

Patterns and directions are given for making St.
Patrick's Day vests. A letter to the parents is
also included to help collect "green" things to
decorate the vests.
St. Patrick's Day Hats

Patterns and directions for the headband/hat are
given in PDF files.
Green Food Day!

We
also celebrate the day with a green snack. I
have provided a parent letter asking for
contributions. It's amazing the
variety of green foods the children bring. It's
fun to see all of the GREEN!! I send the letter
home with the children a week or so before St.
Patrick's Day.

Plan a fun day with a leprechaun visiting your
classroom! Lots of fun ideas, tips and
activities to make St. Patrick's
Day memorable for all.
Ideas, directions and letters for the leprechaun
visit are provided in PDF files. Kids have
great fun looking for the leprechaun!
Leprechaun Stories

After
reading different leprechaun stories, it is fun to
practice writing skills with our own leprechaun trick
stories. Blank story paper and graphics to put
your students' faces on the leprechaun. These
are great to save for end of the year memory books,
too!

A Lucky Charms graph activity with worksheet for
students to complete using the cereal.

Shamrock Patterns

Two different sizes of shamrocks are given. The
larger ones can be used to decorate bulletin boards,
art, etc. The small ones are great to copy on
different colors of paper and use for making math
patterns. These can be copied in different
colors and used for making math pattern strips.
They make great borders in
memory books, too.

"I'm
Lucky" Story

Students write why they think they are lucky.
The story blank is provided and comes with a book cover to make a
class book.
Make
a Rainbow!

This is a fun rainbow to make using rice, macaroni or
coloring with crayon. It's also a great way to reinforce
the color words and maybe do a short unit on science,
weather or light! PDF files for making the
rainbow are given in the March Ideas package.
Make a Rainbow

Helpful hints for making the large rainbow for a
bulletin board. Ideas for making the
small photos as gold coins, too.

Rainbow Fish

Patterns and directions are given to make rainbow
fish and a bulletin board display.
Rainbow Blizzard
l

When everyone is tired of winter and ready for
spring---make a rainbow blizzard. There is a
cute poem to go along with the colorful snowflakes
and a banner to make your own bulletin board!
BINGO!!!
Bingo is a great game to play for teaching many
different skills. I have included two different
Bingo games in the March Ideas package.
1.
Math Bingo for
recognizing and reading numbers from 7-30. I
have always found that children have difficulty
recognizing the "teen" numbers. This provides
extra practice in a fun way!
2.
High Frequency Word Bingo for recognizing the 24 most
frequently used words. I have used The Dolch
Word list for this Bingo game. However, there
is a blank grid provided for you to be able to make
your own list of words if your district does not use
the Dolch Word list.
3.
There are other ideas given for playing Bingo to
reinforce other Kindergarten skills --- included
on most of the list of standards required for
Kindergarten!
